How To Make Lesbian Friends When You’re In A Committed Relationship

Let’s be honest; making friends when you’re an adult can be challenging. It can be difficult to meet people in your age group and find people you click with. But, friendships are an essential aspect of having a healthy social life. Plus, adding more friends to your social circle can strengthen your romantic relationship, too.

How are you supposed to make lesbian friends? Surprisingly, a great place to start is dating apps.

Speaking from personal experience, dating apps are great ways to find other couples and find other forms of community. So long as you’re coupled-up on your profile (and your partner knows and is comfortable that you’re on these apps), using platforms like Her or Tinder can help immensely. Her is especially great for finding other lesbian friends because everyone on Her identifies as female and is looking for connections with other women.

Another tip? Pursue other interests than being a member of the gay community. While we lesbians have a lot in common with each other, it’s helpful to find other interests that tie us together so that you can develop more profound friendships. Find groups online like lesbian hikers, queer gardeners, bisexual movie buffs, etc.,  to find your niche. Can’t find a group for your interest? Consider creating your own.

Branching out to these meetups can be a bit intimidating. But that’s what’s so great about trying to find more friends when you’re already in a relationship: you can bring your partner with you so you have a built-in buffer in case you feel awkward or nervous.

All in all, making lesbian friendships when you’re in an adult and when you’re in a relationship can be a long process. Keep putting yourself out there, and don’t get discouraged! You’ll find your tribe eventually.
