Grlswirl: A Women-founded Inclusive Skate Collective

If you live in LA or NYC and you like skating, check out Grlswirl: a women-founded inclusive skate collective that empowers women of all ages with the power of skating.

As you may have guessed, skating culture is notorious for being a very male-dominated community. This is why Grlswirl is so important as it’s inclusive towards women.

We love Grlswirl! Not only is the concept phenomenal, but they also do a great job at reaching back out into the community. With their Skate Mentorship Program, Grlswirl gives back and teaches young girls from underserved communities how to skateboard. While it may sound trivial to some, the community they provide gives young women a safe space to feel vulnerable, learn new skills, and push themselves out of their comfort zones.

They’re also incredibly supportive of our LGBTQ community. Earlier this month, they got together a huge group of ladies and skated through Venice Beach Boardwalk to celebrate Pride.

Whether they’re skating around or reaching out to do internships, or showing up for the gay community, Grlswirl is a fantastic organization.

Another plus? Their online shop has cool socks, skateboards, shirts, stickers, and more rad apparel.

Are you not in LA or NY, but still want to join these badass ladies and learn to skate? No problem. Start your own chapter! While the company only has the resources to start ten new chapters, you can apply to have your city be included.
